Key Issue #4 : Vaping Epidemic
It is our mission to enlighten and unite young people, parents and teachers, during the current Vaping Epidemic. Enlight Unite is doing this by engaging students in a variety of activities that help them understand how the brain works, the negative effects that vaping has on the undeveloped brain, the truth about addiction and the strategies that the industry uses to targets young people in their advertising.
Enlight Unite gives students the opportunity to use their creativity and voice to inspire themselves and their peers to make healthy choices. We have a training program that will give parents, volunteers, teachers and graduates the opportunity to become certified facilitators & peer mentors to help tackle this epidemic. With more facilitators and peer mentors we will have the ability to educate more students during this National Vaping Crisis.

The Problem
UNSAFE
The use of e-cigarettes is unsafe for kids, teens, and young adults. Some side effects include addiction, seizures, lung disease, mouth sores and wounds from device explosions.
RISING NUMBERS
The number of middle and high school students using e-cigarettes rose from 2.1 million in 2017 to 3.6 million in 2018 - a difference of about 1.5 million youth. The American Pediatrics Association has categorized youth nicotine addiction a disease, like alcoholism.
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE
Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s. Out of 100% of those that try to quit a nicotine addiction only 6% succeed.
HARMFUL
E-cigarettes can contain other harmful substances besides nicotine. Diacetyl for one, can cause lung disease and even death.
ILLEGAL
It is illegal for anyone to sell or give tobacco or vaping products to people under age. In America it is illegal for a minor to vape with nicotine or to smoke. However, it is very illegal to sell vapes, ejuice and tobacco products to minors. The legal age to purchase e-cigarettes and vape products is 21 years old.

THE DOCUMENTARY/DOCU-SERIES:
This documentary project is about the making of a positive focused program for children, which highlights the current vaping epidemic. Enlight Unite develops solutions for educators and parents alike. It is a platform that delivers positive content to children, and through it, enlightens young minds by giving them the tools to make good decisions.
We plan to follow Leah as she works along with her husband, Peter, while they assemble a team of professionals to deliver these positive messages and curriculum. Based in Florida, the duo works with educational teams to develop in-school programs for children. Enlight Unite will focus their first in-school curricula on the smoking and vaping epidemic. The State of Florida has 70.4 million dollars of funding by the tobacco companies, yet small % is used. Why is this? In addition, the school board of broward county alone has been focusing on the epidemic. Why can’t these experienced systems put together programming? Resources - they do not have the bandwidth. That is where Enlight Unite steps in. We will take viewers on a journey through the trials and tribulations of building a business, starting a non-profit and bringing to light the issues that young people in schools are faced with...and the educators that are unfortunately ill-equipped with the resources to make it happen.
